Lovely post, Obsolete Man. I'll watch Aguirre, Wrath of God, Miracle Mile and the Twilight Zone episode The Purple Testament, they all sound very interesting - thank you for the recommendations!
I've seen "The Purple Testament" several times. My heart sinks everytime the Lieutenant sees the light on his face. He knows nothing will save him, no matter what he does.
Got a feberish, need to do something energy like running to catch the bus even as it closes its doors, or trying to get to the airport as fast as possible because you overslept.
Thank you for the reminder to live life fully while we can and for the recommendations! I can’t imagine being the Lieutenant and seeing the light on my face but going ahead anyway and accepting fate so stoicly.
Absolutely. As Marcus Aurelius reminded us, life is more of a wrestle than a dance. You have to fight, and you have to be aware it will end so make the most of it.
For about four years Apocalypto was my fav. film ever.
The Twilight Zone sounds interesting. In the instance of "Jumping in to the Abyss" to meet ultimate judgement or 'testament before God', the understanding is that one must die at that time. If death is accepted with equanimity the jump goes well, one 'dies while still living' and then lives to tell the tale. In the Hindu system of chakras/gates the highest/ultimate gate is purple (& sometimes white).

Thanks for your recommendations as well!

It’s definitely a rough watch, but really well done. Thanks for reading!
It is one of the better ones.
"It came anyway" was chilling. All of these movies sound like a trip.
Definitely. They each have a strange, fever-dream quality to them.

Thanks for the list! I’ll have to check these out. I’m aware of all of them, but I have only ever seen “Apocalypto.”
I think you’ll like the other three. Let me know what you think if you do get the chance to watch any of them.
